so fandom is all about how ronan is completely in love with adam, and how he does all these things for him like paying his rent, giving him hand lotion, making him a mixtape, etc. which is all obviously super important, but let’s talk about how much adam does for ronan, from literally the very beginning of trb.

we have adam leaving his house in the middle of the night when gansey calls him and tells him that he can’t find ronan. adam knows what the risks are for that. and he still does it. he risks being found out by his dad, getting hit, to find ronan and make sure he’s okay. of course, part of that is also for gansey, because adam knows how freaked out he is, but the point still remains. and he does get caught - the next day adam misses school and is covered in bruises.

then at the end of trb we have possibly the most important thing that adam has done for ronan: pressing charges against his father so ronan won’t get arrested and kicked out of aglionby. like, this is such a huge gesture, one that requires adam to sacrifice so much, one that costs him a lot emotionally and financially as well. his entire life has been dedicated to be able to get out of that house, to do it on his own, to be able say fuck you to his father as he leaves voluntarily. on his terms, or not at all. and yet he gives all that up, all his principles that he’s been clinging to, to protect ronan: 

This can’t happen. He can’t go to jail because of me.

If Adam turned his father in, everything crashed down around him. If Adam turned him in, his mother would never forgive him. If Adam turned him in, he could never come home again.

Across the lot, one of the officers put his hand on the back of Ronan’s head, guiding him down into the police car.

the enormity of this gesture is hardly ever talked about and how much adam cares about ronan to do this. and this is before they’re even particularly close the way they are in bllb. like, ronan obviously wanted to protect adam and so he reacted impulsively, but ultimately, that made things even more complicated for adam, and adam got himself and ronan out of the horrible situation by pressing charges. adam saved himself from his abuse and saved ronan from awful consequences as well. adam knows that his entire world would shatter around him if he did this, that he will lose his home and his mother won’t ever speak to him and he’ll have to support himself completely, but he still does it, for ronan. 

in tdt, he fixes the ley line for ronan. he works tirelessly, not sleeping, because he knows ronan will need the ley line to be whole. and in bllb, adam researches greenmantle and comes up with a complicated plan to help ronan - even though he has a lot of other shit to do and hardly any free time to spare, with working three jobs and school and cabeswater. but when ronan asks him and tells adam why it’s so important to him, adam helps him.

each book has at least one huge thing that adam does to help ronan, and this is not even touching on how much adam constantly thinks about and analyzes ronan in his pov chapters, constantly thinks of ronan as admirable and magical and beautiful and of himself as completely unworthy of someone like ronan, which you could write a whole other essay about and just proves how ridiculously bisexual adam is tbh. and we have things like adam worrying about if ronan is okay and regretting that he left him alone after what happened in the church. but, y'know, why acknowledge all this when you could hate on adam for being flattered by a crush - a completely normal reaction - or complain about how adam doesn’t love ronan the way ronan deserves or how adam doesn’t deserve ronan or any of the other bullshit fandom comes up with 👀 👀 👀

adam does so much for ronan and the things he does cost him a lot - he can’t offer help to his friends freely the way gansey and ronan often do for him, because he can’t physically or emotionally afford it, but when he does help them, his gestures hold so much weight and are so meaningful and significant, and it’s just really wild that people think pynch is one sided in any way whatsoever.
